A Message That Reminded Me Why This Work Matters
Today, I received a message from someone who watched my PR Masterclass to learn how to cold pitch and grow her business organically. Messages like these remind me why this work is so sacred—not just for me, but for the entire PR Starter Pack community.
Often, I hear from people about their main takeaways, like how they plan to use the CPR Pitching Method to clarify their message and make an impact. But this message stood out. It made me reflect on the bigger purpose behind what we do.
The Harmful Narrative That Keeps Us Small
So many of us have been told that we have nothing valuable to say. That someone else is always doing it better, and that we should "wait our turn."
As a 5-foot-tall, first-generation Asian American woman, I’ve spent my life being told other people’s voices mattered more than mine.
I’ve been asked if I speak English.
I’ve been mistaken for an intern because I “looked too young to be a manager.”
I was told to pitch two white startup bros for a diversity story in a Spanish newspaper, even though they didn’t speak Spanish or have real ties to the culture.
These experiences taught me a painful truth: the belief that someone else always has something better to say is a legacy of oppression. It’s a narrative designed to keep us small, quiet, and unseen.
Rewriting the Narrative Through PR
The work we do in the PR Starter Pack is about destroying this harmful narrative. We empower each other to take up space and share our stories. Because until we see ourselves reflected back in the media, we can’t rewrite the narrative.
This isn’t just about pitching or media features—it’s about reclaiming our voices and taking ownership of our stories.
