Someone STOLE my entire PR method word for word
A Scarcity Spiral Waiting to Happen
It’s a sunny Tuesday before Halloween weekend in NYC, and I’m sitting here, sipping tea, after a blissful morning of sleeping in without an alarm. I should be livid right now, but instead, I’m laughing at something that could’ve sent me into a full-blown scarcity spiral just a few years ago.
Here’s what happened:
A former PR student who once complained about my program completely copied my CPR method, word for word, along with the resources and content from my masterclass. They’re now launching their own PR program, claiming it’s their “proprietary method.”
But instead of anger, I feel oddly flattered.
From Scarcity to Abundance
Growing up in a single-parent immigrant household, I inherited deep scarcity wounds. The idea of never having enough and needing to protect what little I had ran deep in my bones. It shaped how I lived and worked.
Years ago, I would’ve spiraled—angry emails, legal threats, sleepless nights. My trauma response would’ve been to protect, attack, defend.
But today? I feel calm and grounded. That’s what healing does.
The Power of Authenticity
Here’s the thing: people don’t join my PR program just for strategies or templates. They join because of me—my energy, my unapologetic mission to elevate underrepresented voices, and my commitment to doing PR differently.
I’m not for everyone, and that’s okay. If someone wants a cookie-cutter, bro-marketing-style PR program, they’ll go elsewhere.
But for the everyday small business owner, the BIPOC founder, and the immigrant entrepreneur? They come to me because they know I see them, I value them, and I’m building something that prioritizes connection over quick wins.
Healing Scarcity Wounds
Over the past few years, I’ve unlearned the hustle mentality. I’ve let go of the pressure to prove my worth through metrics and milestones. Instead, I’ve embraced:
Deep relationships: Building trust with key journalists who now introduce me to others.
Community building: Bringing experts like Amy Goodman (Good Morning America, Today Show) into our PR program.
Simplification: Letting go of “more, more, more” to focus on what truly matters.
The results? More joy, more creativity, and a thriving community of small business owners supporting each other.
Focus on What Can’t Be Copied
At the end of the day, people can copy your methods, but they can’t replicate how you make others feel. They can’t copy your energy, your authenticity, or the spaces you create for others to shine.
So if you’ve ever felt the sting of being copied or judged, remember this: keep showing up as you. Focus on what makes your business uniquely yours.
