10 Things I Learned in the last year (PART 1)

Why Reflection Matters
Birthdays have a way of sparking deep reflection, and as I prepare to celebrate in sunny Lisbon, I find myself looking back on the epic, challenging, and beautiful lessons of the past year. These experiences, born from grief, growth, and a shift in perspective, have profoundly changed the way I approach my business and life.

Here are five of the biggest lessons I’ve learned:

1. Grief Is a Powerful Teacher
Grief is something we try to avoid, but it was my greatest teacher this year. Through healing my relationship with my mother, I learned to hold space for her pain instead of trying to fix it. Using somatic therapy and psychedelics, I could viscerally feel her grief as a young widow rebuilding her life far from home.

This process opened my heart and allowed compassion to flow, reminding me that healing ourselves is the first step to healing the world around us.

2. Support Isn’t About Solutions, It’s About Space
As someone with a bias for action, I’ve always tried to fix problems immediately. But supporting my husband, who has been laid off for over a year, has taught me that sometimes the best thing you can do is simply hold space. Instead of rushing to find solutions, I’m learning to sit with his emotions and provide empathy, which has deepened our connection.

3. Growth Without Rest Is Unsustainable
The obsession with constant growth—both in revenue and scale—is harming businesses and communities. This year, I let go of the idea that success means “more” and embraced doing less, but with greater depth.

I’ve focused on connecting with my customers by hopping on over 100 calls and creating meaningful spaces for them to feel seen and supported. Scaling back my team and projects has brought a profound sense of peace, allowing me to align my business with my values.

4. Energy Speaks Louder Than Words
Customers can sense your energy and intentions. In the past, I’ve fallen into the trap of high-pressure selling, but this year, I shifted my approach. By stepping back, embracing enoughness, and trusting that the right people will join when ready, I’ve seen sales flow naturally—even when I wasn’t actively promoting.

5. Enoughness Attracts the Right People
When you lean into the belief that you are enough and your business is enough, the right clients and opportunities will find their way to you. I’ve stopped chasing every podcast or speaking opportunity and instead focused on serving intentionally.

This shift has proven that staying aligned with your mission attracts the people and opportunities you need—without burning out.

Final Thoughts: Redefining Success
As I celebrate my birthday in Lisbon, indulging in affordable lattes and pedicures, I’m reminded of the beauty of simplicity and alignment. This year has taught me that success isn’t about doing more—it’s about doing what feels right, with intention and purpose.
