How to not feel sh*tty about this new year
The Emotional Weight of a New Year
The start of a new year often floods us with emotions—hope, regret, and a seemingly endless list of things we feel we must do. As small business owners wearing all the hats, it’s easy to feel the constant desire to improve, optimize, and accomplish more.
This drive for more isn’t inherently bad, but it can come at a cost. I know because it drove me to burnout. (Read about my experience here).
Rest, Expansion, and the Power of Doing Less
This is your gentle reminder:
You are a living, breathing, limitless human being. You deserve to rest, feel expanded, and exist without guilt for not being “productive” 24/7.
Your most game-changing ideas and powerful energy come from a state of feeling infinite—not overwhelmed.
What We Truly Need in 2023
Forget the endless “New Year planners” or social media reminders that you’re “behind.” Here’s what we really need to thrive this year:
Community: A space where you feel seen, supported, and validated for who you are. (Join ours here).
Rest and Realignment: Taking time to unplug, reflect, and reconnect with what matters most.
Healthy Boundaries: Learning to say no to the pressure to always do more.
How I Chose Rest Over Planning
In December, instead of meticulously mapping out 2023 like many of my peers, I took a last-minute solo trip to Kauai.
Epic hikes alone.
Morning and evening walks without distractions.
Days without computers or notifications.
During those quiet moments, I realized I had been treating emails, texts, and Slack messages like 24/7 emergencies. This habit led to burnout, mental spirals, and exhaustion. (I talked about this on a recent podcast episode—listen here).
What I Learned During My Break
Boundaries Are Non-Negotiable: I’m starting my days with 10 minutes of stretching and a strict no-phone policy in the bedroom or upon waking up.
Community Matters: I’m planning more in-person meetups for our PR Starter Pack members to connect and feel truly seen.
Healing Is a Journey: I discovered I likely have undiagnosed ADHD from childhood trauma, which has shaped both my strengths and challenges.
My 2023 Goals
This year, I’m determined to:
Avoid burnout.
Prevent another fibroid tumor from reappearing. (Listen to my story here).
Prioritize my well-being over hustle culture.
If you’re on a similar journey, know that you’re not alone. Let’s hold each other accountable to align our goals with our highest well-being this year.
Together, Anything Is Possible
In our PR Starter Pack community, we’re focused on realigning with what truly matters. Let’s make 2023 the year we:
Treat ourselves as humans, not machines.
Embrace intuition over external noise.
Recognize that “behind” doesn’t exist—we’re all exactly where we need to be.
