3 lessons from spending 2 days with 30+ high level entrepreneurs

What Successful Entrepreneurs Have in Common

Last week, I had the privilege of joining over 30 mission-driven entrepreneurs for a two-day retreat led by my coach, Rick Mulready. Alongside industry leaders like Pat Flynn and Jude Charles, we brainstormed, workshopped, and shared ideas on how to elevate our businesses while staying true to our values.

This retreat taught me that the most impactful entrepreneurs, regardless of industry, share three powerful traits. Here’s how these traits can transform your business and help you make a lasting impact.

1. They Focus on Their WHY, Not Just Revenue

Mission-driven entrepreneurs prioritize their purpose over profits. They understand that success is rooted in their values and mission, not just their bottom line. This allows them to:

  • Say NO to lucrative opportunities that don’t align with their core values.

  • Make intentional decisions that reflect their mission.

  • Build businesses that positively ripple through their communities.

For me, this looks like:

  • Featuring diverse voices on my podcast.

  • Investing in coaching programs led by experts who align with my values.

  • Ensuring that BIPOC business owners feel seen, heard, and valued in my programs.

When you lead with your WHY, you’re not just a business owner—you’re a leader making a meaningful impact.

2. They Master the Art of Clear and Compelling Communication

Great entrepreneurs are exceptional at communicating their message clearly and powerfully. Whether they’re speaking on stage, pitching to a journalist, or appearing on a podcast, they captivate audiences with ease.

But this isn’t magic—it’s a skill honed through:

  • Writing “shitty first drafts” and refining their message over time.

  • Courageously pitching, even in the face of rejection.

  • Learning to communicate what matters most in a way that resonates.

This is why I created my proprietary CPR pitching method, which has helped 5,000+ founders get featured without prior connections or experience. (Learn about the CPR method here). Mastering your message is a game-changer for positioning yourself as a thought leader and driving your business forward.

3. They Take Imperfect Action Without Waiting for "The Perfect Time"

Successful entrepreneurs don’t wait to “feel ready.” Instead, they take action—even imperfectly—to test, tweak, and improve. They understand that:

  • Consistency builds success, but growth requires trying new approaches.

  • Failure and rejection are opportunities to learn and grow.

  • Immediate action creates momentum and leads to better results.

If you’re waiting for the “perfect time” to refine your message or pitch your business, remember: the best time to start is now. Even in Q4, there’s still time to sharpen your message, send that pitch, and make your impact.

Final Thoughts: Embrace Your WHY and Take Action

This retreat reminded me why I’m so passionate about our community of small but mighty business owners. Together, we’re rewriting narratives, refining our messages, and leaning into our WHY to make the world better—one step at a time.

So, as you head into the final stretch of the year, remember:

  • It’s never too late to take action.

  • Your mission and values are your greatest strengths.

  • By refining your message, you’re amplifying your impact.

Thank you for being part of this journey with me. Let’s make Q4 unforgettable.

thanks
