How To Get On To 30+ Podcasts
In this day and age, people do not have access to a professional network the way they used to. Everyone is looking for ways to meet people, engage with the right communities, and grow their businesses from home.
That’s why getting your small business out there by getting on a podcast can be the most powerful way to grow your audience organically. This allows you to create the “know, like, and trust” factor with your audience, without having to leave your home or attend any events.
Podcasts are the next best thing and have often been overlooked. They allow people to converse, laugh, and share real stories without being together in person. Also, listening to a podcast is easier than watching an interview, looking for contacts or research, or hosting a type of event. It can be listened to in the car, cooking dinner, or at your desk.
I truly believe that PR isn’t just about publicity or bragging rights--it’s knowing that you are SO confident in your mission and impact that you are unafraid to put yourself out there and share it with a bigger audience. Let’s go BIGGER with your message!
Appearing on podcasts is an excellent way to network, grow your audiences, and get more attention for your business! You know that getting onto a podcast is not only great for growing your audience and converting customers but that it’s an incredible opportunity to build TRUST and thought leadership. If someone is willing to listen to a podcast episode for 30-60 minutes, think about the TRUST and RAPPORT you’ll build with them.
I have created a “Podcast Pitching Roadmap” that provides the right steps, along with the Do’s and Don'ts, that has been PROVEN to get you guesting on as many podcasts as you choose to!
STEP 1: Make Your Podcast List
Research what keywords and themes you want to speak on, and focus on podcasts that focus on these themes. (Hint: The PR Starter Pack comes with over 1000 podcasts and contact info for their hosts for instant download!)
Choose no more than 2 keywords-- remember, you have to niche down to come off as an expert or thought leader.
If you speak to EVERYONE, you end up speaking to NO ONE.
STEP 2: Write Your Pitch
Use my CPR Pitching Method™ to write the perfect pitch. This is my signature method I use to write all of the pitches that got my clients onto Fast Company, Time magazine, and more!
Not sure how to use the CPR Method™? Check out my blog post for a video all about it- just click here!
STEP 3: Repurpose & Share!
Make sure the host shares your website for SEO, promotes via social (growing your network), and if possible, shares your offer with their mailing list.
Turn short clips of your recording into audiograms to maximize the opportunity and cross-post to all of your chosen social media platforms.
The possibilities are endless when it comes to repurposing content! When done right, ONE podcast alone can supply enough content for an entire month! (How’s that for a WIN-WIN?)

DO’s
Be a part of the future, not the past Pitch them a story about what is on the horizon, what's going to change next year, next 5 years in your industry, etc
Present yourself as an innovator in your field
→ Ex: “My unconventional approach to ____ resonates with ____ because_____”
Clearly state how you provide value to their audience by listing 3 bullet points. (see my pitch template example in the previous email)
Focus on the pitch on actionable takeaways audiences will get from your interview if you are selected
Reference any common connections/networks you have in common
Add what you’ve published or written-hyperlink. NO attachments!
Include a big achievement or press feature if you have one
Create an eye-catching subject line that's benefits-driven
Install an email tracker so you can see if your email pitch is getting opened. If not, send it again!
Follow up/follow-through after the initial pitch once a week
DON’Ts
Overuse the pandemic angle and try to relate it if it's a far stretch
→ Ex: “People are struggling and seek comfort, and that’s why my comfort wear brand resonates with people during COVID TIMES”
Include the word “pitch” or your name or company name. (If the host doesn’t know you, this won’t catch their eye.)
Give baseless/tacky compliments: “I love your podcast so much!” (Do research on their previous episodes and if they haven't interviewed a guest like you, tell them WHY they should have you on their podcast.)
Forget to do your research on their podcast/community (Don’t pitch something about managing corporate life if the podcast host is an entrepreneur and hasn’t worked a corporate job in years.)
Feel discouraged. Building relationships with hosts takes time but the benefits of sharing your story on a show are worth it!
The “Podcast Pitching Roadmap” includes all of this and more and could easily be a $97 paid offer, but because my #1 mission is to HELP YOU be more SEEN, HEARD, and VALUED--I am giving this to you, 100% FREE! All you have to do is download and start pitching!
If you want a comprehensive podcast list with all of the hosts, their contact info and where they are on social media, the PR STARTER PACK gives you instant access to the most powerful PR Database and winning pitch templates to help you get into your dream outlet at a fraction of the cost of an agency!
PS: What's your favorite podcast? I am always looking for new podcasts to listen to--send me your recs!
